Pit Stop

Digital, Autodesk Sketchbook and Photoshop

A two-page comic that follows two aliens who fulfill a special promise they made to their friend. These characters and designs were made by myself for this comic. They are species of their own, but I took inspiration from various animals and creatures to create them; Chow is the blob, Ron is the salamander-hammerhead shark, and Deacon is the cyclops-beaver-bear.

Process Work

Initial Character Sketches

The Deacon sketch in the top-left corner was the first one that was drawn. Once I saw him, I knew I had to go with that design. With a focus on soft, friendly shapes and exaggerated features, Chow and Ron's designs naturally followed.

Linear Rough

The first stage of figuring out the story and laying out the panels. Basic shadows are placed. The exact phrasing of the dialogue was still prone to change, so the text was typed in this stage although it was hand-written for the final comic.

Revised Linear

Gray tones are implemented, text is hand-written, and panels are switched from drawn borders to lineless colour blocks. All lineart and speech bubbles are cleaned up for the final comic.
