110 Birds

Digital, Autodesk Sketchbook on iPad

A piece highlighting the incredible variety of bird species that call Peru home. At the time of this work's creation, there were 110 endemic bird species; birds that are only found in Peru. To mirror that number, 110 birds are showcased together in this artwork.

A focus on the lush green landscapes and rocky structures. Contrasting with these earthy tones is the vibrant colours of Peruvian fabrics, and the brightly coloured birds of Peru.

Rough Sketches

The 1st concept shows a grouping of birds that can only be found in Peru, of which there are 110 species. The background is dark green to signify the rainforests that many of these birds live in.

The 2nd concept is a vertically symmetrical image to mimic certain Pre-Columbian artworks, and it shows the stairs of an Inca pyramid in front of a large mountain. The red and purple is meant to reflect the bright colours of Peruvian textiles.

The 3rd concept shows a stone wall where each massive stone was cut to perfectly fit in the wall, as seen at Sacsayhuaman, near Cusco, Peru. An alpaca peers over the top of the wall.
